Session 16:Glaucoma Postops Gone Bad!

Presenter: Robert Wooldridge, OD, FAAO

When cataract surgery goes well, postoperative care is easy. What about those times when surgery doesn’t go well? In this course we will cover postoperative care of patients with problems after cataract surgery. Complications covered will include mild issues like corneal edema, moderate issues like leaking wounds, elevated intraocular pressure with burping of incisions, to more severe problems like ruptured globes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Be familiar with postoperative complications that occur after cataract surgery.
  • Know how to burp an incision to lower IOP.
  • Be more comfortable managing the mild to moderate complications and know when to refer patients with severe problems back to the surgeon.
