Session 2: Prescribing in Pregnancy and Lactation

This course gives an overview of changes that pregnant women can experience, discusses the evolving pregnancy categories/labeling of medications, and reviews optometric medications to avoid and to use for pregnant and lactating patients

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how pregnancy can change the metabolism of drugs.
  • Recognize and identify the new pregnancy category and labeling of medications.
  • Identify what medications to prescribe during pregnancy and lactation.

About the Speaker

Amiee Ho OD, FAAO

Assistant Professor, Pacific University College of Optometry

Amiee Ho, OD, FAAO, received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2012 from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry after earning her BS degree in Biochemistry/Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego. In 2013, she completed a residency in Geriatrics and Primary Care at West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center through the Southern California College of Optometry. From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Ho served as an optometrist for the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System at a community-based outpatient clinic in Yuma, Arizona. She joined the Pacific University College of Optometry faculty in July 2015. Dr. Ho was raised in San Diego, CA. She enjoys hiking, tennis, running, traveling, baking, arts & crafts, and spending time with her family.
